Fixed Routes

City Bus routes consist of 3 bus routes.  To view the routes on a map, please click on “Updated Times Map” at the bottom of the page, or to download a list of routes, click on “2018 Updated Bus Schedule” at the bottom of page.

Paratransit Services

Persons who are certified under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as having a disability that prevents them from riding fixed-route buses are eligible to use City Bus Paratransit On-Demand Service which operates within 3/4 mile of the City Bus fixed routes. In order to qualify, the applicant and a health care provider must complete and sign the ADA application form. Application forms are available from the Liberal Transit Office or can be downloaded from the appropriate link below. The applicant has 21 days from the date of first use our service to submit a completed application. A decision will be made within 21 days of receipt of a completed application.

Accommodations

Buses will accommodate 12 seated riders and 2 wheelchairs or 10 seated riders and 3 wheelchairs.

Bus Stops & Transfers

Bus stops will be distributed throughout town in residential and commercial areas. At designated transfer stops, riders transferring between the Blue, Red and Orange routes will request a transfer card from the driver to transfer within 1 hour free of charge. Transfer cards will only take a rider to their original destination and cannot be used for a return trip.

Inclement Weather

Cancellation of services  or early closing of services occasionally occurs in the event of bad weather. Such cancellations or early closings will be posted on the City of Liberal’s Facebook page.

Fares

Fixed route 1-way trips cost $1, and unlimited monthly passes will be available at City Hall for $30. Upon boarding, riders will pay in cash or present a pass. Paratransit rides cost $2 per one-way trip. Monthly unlimited passes cost $40 per month. A passenger must show Monthly Pass upon boarding or pay $2 fare. Bus drivers will not be able to make change.  Change for any amount over the fare will be given in the form of tokens or punch cards.

Half-Fare Cards

Applications for fixed route half-fare cards will be available at City Hall for senior citizens, low-income riders and riders with disabilities. Half-fare cards will be presented with a photo ID upon boarding to reduce fare to 50 cents. Students can present a student ID and senior citizens can present a State ID to receive half fare. (Half-fare cards are not passes and do not substitute for fare payment.) Qualifying for half-fare for low-income or disabilities will require going through the application process to obtain a half-fare card.  Applications can be picked up at City Hall or downloaded by following the appropriate link below.

Limited English Proficiency Plan

The following plan was developed in order to provide the necessary assistance to LEP (Limited English Proficiency) persons:

We currently have our information brochures/maps, notice of individual rights under Title VI, flyers that give advanced notice of Holiday closures and a written-only list of stops in Spanish. We also have translated  ADA application forms, Half-Fare application forms, Fixed Route ridership policies, Paratransit ridership policies and Title VI complaint forms.

Drivers routinely call the office at City Hall for language assistance from bilingual staff members.
