Mid-America Air Museum is the largest general aviation museum in Kansas and the fifth largest in the United States, housing more than 105 aircraft. The historically significant collection includes civilian, military, experimentals, helicopters, homebuilt, etc. The museum interprets and preserves the history of flight through the collection of aircraft and related artifacts, its exhibits and public programs.
Liberal, once home to a major Beech Aircraft manufacturing facility and a B-24 Liberator pilot training base during World War II, established the museum to help preserve a proud local, state and national aviation heritage. It was a vision shared by Colonel Tom Thomas Jr. who donated his personal collection of over 50 planes to the museum.
Independent visitors to the museum take self-guided tours. Guided tours and special rates are available for groups of ten or more if arranged in advance. Two electric carts are available at no charge for use by those who find it difficult to walk among the planes.
